Data Sources
RateRight should become more useful by joining official public data in a way that makes commercial property rates easier to understand quickly. These are the current and candidate sources for that direction.
Current Sources
VOA non-domestic rating list
Core source for rateable values, property descriptions, local authority, floor area, and comparable rating records.
GOV.UK business rates guidance
Used for revaluation context, Check/Challenge/Appeal guidance, multipliers, and relief caveats.
Postcode validation
Useful for separating invalid postcodes from valid postcodes with no commercial rating record.
Candidate Enhancements
Non-domestic EPC data
Can enhance floor-area confidence, energy-cost context, building age/use patterns, and refurbishment signals.
HM Land Registry Price Paid Data
Useful around mixed-use assets, market context, and commercial/residential postcode disambiguation, subject to address-data licence limits.
Companies House API
Can enrich business-occupier context, company risk, sector tagging, and lead/referral workflows.
Local authority relief and billing pages
Can improve relief detection, billing authority routing, discretionary relief notes, and local caveats.
Planning and licensing data
Can expose change-of-use, extensions, conversions, premises licensing, and local compliance context.
